As Australia’s largest state, Western Australia houses many attractive delights, and wineries is one of them. WA’s wine regions are almost entirely situated in the cooler climate of its south-western tip and despite WA producing less than 5% of the country’s wine output, WA wine is actually of higher quality, rating among the top in countless national wine tasting awards.
Major wine regions include the Swan District (also known as SwanValley) and Margaret River. Swan Valley is the hottest wine region in Australia, with grape harvest beginning in January and is among the largest sources of WA wine, with grape varieties such as Verdelho, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. Margaret River has a cooler climate due to the Indian Ocean, and its predominant grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Semillion, Sauvignon blanc, Chenin blanc and Chardonnay.
